The Storm

Our wedding day weather: http://weatherblog.dallasnews.com/archives/2009/05/02/

So, the rain on our wedding day was actually a tornado. In the end I didn't mind. It was actually very romantic to see the storm through the windows of the bright beautiful church. Rain on your wedding is good luck, right? And a sign of fertility? ; )

The ceremony seemed like it was over in an instant, but I loved every moment of it - Focusing on Fernando's eyes as I walked down the aisle, turning to see the adoring crowd behind us, holding his hands as we vowed our lives to each other--the thunder that interrupted us, exchanging rings, lighting our candle, that first perfect kiss and the rush of emotion as we were announced Mr. and Mrs. Gonzalez and marched out of the sanctuary.

I had almost dreaded these moments in some ways. Since my father died in 2003, I had thought what happens when I get married some day? who will give me away? what about the father/daughter dance? After meeting Fernando and getting engaged, I was more and more sad and feared the tears to come over how to cope.

Everyone who knew him had to have all been thinking the same thoughts. He would be so proud. We were happy in the moment and had him in our hearts.

My wonderful cousin Nagwa, says the storm was my father cheering and clapping for joy.

Joyful, Joyful
Lord, we adore Thee
God of glory
Lord of love
Hearts unfold like flowers before Thee
Hail Thee as the sun above
Melt the clouds of sin and sadness
Drive the dark of doubt away
Giver of immortal gladness
Fill us with the light
Fill us with the light
Oh, fill us with the light of day......
